Easter 2011

For Easter this year, we took our first airplane trip with the pooper to see family.  The ride was great!

I'm totally lying.  It was terrible.  Myla started screaming before everyone had even finished boarding.  I had a bottle with me for takeoff, and one for landing, but Little Miss had gotten hungry before we even got on the plane.  Fail.  I was sitting next to a large man who had to put one knee on either side of the seat in front of him because of how tall he was.  I prefer not to bring unwanted attention upon myself-- I like to just blend in wherever I go. I also happen to be one of the most modest people in the world, and let me tell ya, it's not fun to pull out a boob when you're basically touching a man you don't know in the seat next to you.  No lie, Myla's feet were touching this man.  Fun times.  She stopped screaming for about thirty minutes of that flight.  Awesome.  The trip back was significantly better.  I wore the kiddo in her "sack" and swayed back and forth for about... an hour and a half.  Then she fell asleep, PTL.  We will wait to take the next plane trip until she is 15 or so.

But, we did have a lovely time in Wisconsin!  The funniest thing that happened was Myla's bathtime.  Dave is the official bath giver around here.  We didn't have any fancy bath contraptions with us, so she just laid on a towel, which was fine.  But for some reason, Dave didn't just kneel next to the tub-- too overprotective, I guess.  Instead, this was how he decided to position himself:

And of course, we celebrated Jesus on Easter!  He is risen!

Luckily, my wonderful mother bought me a dress because I'm too fat to fit into the ones I have.  Thanks, mama.

P.S. This is so completely off-topic, but I'm so glad the royal couple's first public kiss was just as awkward and quick as Dave's and mine!

4-Month Stats

This is just a typical morning around here.  Myla stays informed by watching Local 2 news every morning, but she also has a few things to say back to Owen Conflenti.  She's quite a sunshine in the early hours.

I took the pooper to her four month well-baby appointment all by myself, and I didn't even cry!  The gremlin came out because it was naptime.  NEVER going to another doctor's appointment at 2pm.  I know most people don't care to know the stats, but I am putting them here so I don't forget them when I lose the paper the doctor gave me (which may or may not have already happened)... Anyway, here it is:

Length: 24 inches, 25-50th percentile
Weight: 12 pounds, 14 ounces, 25-50th percentile
Head Circumference: 16 1/8 inches, 50-75th percentile
Cuteness: 100th percentile still (shocker, I know)!

We're starting on a little trial run of Prevacid for some whiny feedings and spit up issues.  If she ends up staying on it, she needs to get a job, though.  Dave is training her to mow the lawn as we speak.

Sidenote: Does anyone have any advice for the actual taking of the Prevacid?  I have dissolved the tablet in a bottle once and in a little medicine dropper once, but every time I feel like I end up losing some of the medicine (because it doesn't dissolve completely or fit through the bottle nipple, whatever).

Life as we know it #6

There are days (that are few and far between) where Dave and I start to feel like we've got this parenting thing with Myla all figured out.  Then there are times like this:

One evening...

Dave: I think I'm going to take Penny out for a walk.

Me: I kind of wish I could go with you.

Dave: You can come if you want...?

Me: I mean, I know she's asleep, but I don't really think she's old enough to stay home by  herself.

Dave: Oh yea, I forgot we had a kid!

Last year for his birthday, Dave asked me to iron his shirts.  I begrudgingly agreed.  The other night, a conversation like this happened:

Dave: You never ironed my shirts, did you?

Me: I did! Remember?  I ironed them and you laughed because I did it of wrong and I didn't know how much of the stuff to spray...  Anyway, your birthday is still a few months away.

Dave: When I asked you, I was hoping you would keep doing it...

Me: Oh...but I don't want to.

I am still in the process of becoming a decent cook.  I generally can get food on the table, but I will never be Julia Childs.  I probably won't even be Sandra Lee!  Once in a while, I make something really good, then it gives me a confidence boost.  I'll get ballsy enough to try something without a recipe.  I hit a home run one time with some stuffed chicken breasts I made, so I tried it again with some changes.  Changes were bad.  So, so bad.  I knew it was bad the moment I put it in the oven, and that was probably too late.  I didn't even eat it because I was busy being on a diet that lasted 3 days.  Dave did, and I could see how bad it was by the look on his face as he labored through that chicken.

Me: Just throw it away!  I'd rather you throw it away than see your face like that while you're eating it.

Dave: You know I don't throw food away...What kind of cheese is this?

Me: I don't want to talk about it.

Dave: Is it cream cheese?

Me: I don't want to talk about it!

Back to the recipes.

Last one, I promise.

Dave (from the other room): Cute, babe.

Me: What?

Dave: I heard it.  You tooted.

Me: No, I didn't.

Dave: Yes you did, I heard it.

Me: No, I really didn't.

Dave: Uh huh. Sure.

Me: I'm serious.  I didn't!

(noise comes from the kitchen)
Dave: Oh. It was the ice maker.
