So, my mother-in-law makes quilts for a living. I can't even describe how awesome that is. She gave us a beautiful quilt for our wedding, and recently sent another one just for me! It's the girliest, cutest quilt we have. I love it. I should have known that Laci Wiener would love it too. She has become a total quilt hog. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves-- she didn't even lift her head to smile for the camera.
What a goober.

Semiversary
I know I joked on facebook about Cirque du Soleil tickets for our 6-month anniversary, but Dave and I have recently been thinking that a little mini-celebration might not be a bad idea for us around the 6 month mark. The main reason for this is that it turns out that we won't ever have an anniversary without children...
SO, since I'm such a tightwad and babies are expensive (I hear) we are on a budget!
My ideas on the staycation/vacation front are things like: Kemah, Galveston, Fredericksburg, nice Houston dinner + hotel...
Since I'm not a real Houstonian, but rather a sheltered Sugar Lander, I need ideas! If anyone can recommend yummy restaurants, fun hotels, fun TX weekend getaways (whether they were on my list or not), let me know! Don't be shy. Our 6-month anniversary is at stake. It's the only one where we won't have to come up with a babysitter. [*see note]
THANKS!
* Note: While I type "come up with a babysitter," I actually mean letting grandparents and other relatives compete in some sort of Olympic competition where the winner gets to care for our little Scooterbaby. I mean, who wouldn't want to watch our bundle of joy??

Life as we know it
(This interchange occurred after watching an episode of NCIS where an angry wife drives up next to her cheating husband and shoots him dead).
Dave: Well, at least I know that'll never happen with us.
(spoken at the same time)
Me: Why, because you'll never cheat on me?
Dave: Because I don't think you can drive and shoot a gun at the same time
Me: Jerk.

Penny wants ice cream
Our puppy, Penny, isn't much of a barker. In fact, when Joey (my parents' dog) and Laci Wiener bark at the neighbors together, she usually runs the other way in fear. Boldness isn't her forte. But there is one exception to this lack of vocal expression: her calls to the ice cream truck. Penny howls like a madman at the ice cream truck which comes by probably everyday, yet we have never caught her in the act on camera...until now. You can see just a few seconds of her asking for ice cream before she catches us in the window:

As Hugh Grant would say in one of my dad's favorite movies of all time (Notting Hill), "Whoopsy daisies!"
Well, you guessed it (or maybe you didn't). We're PREGNANT! Actually, I'm technically the one with child, but it's Dave's fault, so there you go. I guess I'm not sure where to begin, so I'll just answer some questions bullet-style.
- We did not have a shotgun wedding. Also, mind your own business!
- No, we did not plan this.
- Yes, we are still excited! It's a miracle! God created life, so we rejoice in that.
- I am a little over 12 weeks along right now. I made Dave wait a long time to tell people, because I was afraid we were in the danger zone. Or, I was being worst-case-scenario-Kemp, as my dad would say.
- I have been feeling a little blah, but I'm sure it could be worse. I figured out I have to eat every 3 hours in order to not get sick. Also, the doc gave me some magic nausea pills that I take every now and then. Too bad they cost an arm and a leg.
- Our debt-free plan is still underway, but it will take a little longer than expected. Such is life.
- Our last ultrasound was crazy. Baby is quite the acrobat or possibly break dancer. It made me a little nervous to see how I feel if he/she continues to flip all around as it gets bigger! If the kid is clearly a break dancer, we will have to just give him a stage name like "Blaze" or something.
It took me so long to update because this is the biggest thing going on in my life right now, but I wasn't ready to tell everyone. I don't know if it becomes a baby blog or not, but it doesn't really matter I guess, because my parents are my most faithful readers, and they'll keep reading no matter how boring I get! That's the good thing about family.
Adios, I'll leave you with a pic of our little sea monkey now:
