For Christmas, Dave's mom got him some kind of Logitech tv box he researched about and asked for. I'm not sure why he wanted it, but he says it makes us able to do all the things we do connecting the Ipad to the tv, only without using the Ipad. Basically, he can stream Netflix and play Ipad games at the same time now? I digress. Anyway, on the night it arrived, he was like a kid in a candy store navigating around and seeing all the cool stuff it can do. While looking through Netflix options...

1. What is your favorite online-only store?
I'm not a big online-only shopper, so Amazon is the only one I can think of. I probably only use it 2-3 times per year, though. I feel like I should start doing some online diaper buying research after other people's answers, though.
2. Do you enjoy wrapping gifts?
Eh. I don't love it or hate it. When my granny was around, we would make a little assembly line of sorts to wrap gifts. It was fun, because we were chatting and enjoying the season. Now, when I wrap gifts, I just think about how they end up looking like a 10-year-old wrapped them. So that's less fun (since I'm not 10 anymore).
3. What is the temperature in your city today?
65 degrees. Brrr!
4. What time do you eat dinner?
It changes. We prefer to eat early, but when I was working (up until last week), we wouldn't get to eat until around 7. I'm hoping we make it closer to 6:00 now.
5. Will you be making New Years Resolutions?
I never do. But, Dave and I did copy some friends who spent a "date night" talking about their goals for the year (shoutout to David and Erin). At first, I thought it was kind of cheesy. Then, I thought it sounded like a really good idea. Dave and I talked about our goals for this year sometime last January. It was neat to get out in the open the things we had been thinking about. For example, one of our goals of 2011 was to buy a car. Check. Another goal was to not have a baby. We didn't technically have one, but we made one, so that's a halfway win. I hope to talk about our goals for 2012 as well, but not make resolutions per se.
6. How old is your oldest pair of shoes that you still wear?
I'm not sure. At least five years. I love old shoes.
7. Do you have any restaurant phone numbers saved in your phone?
I wasn't sure with this one, so I started checking my phone. I quit once I saw that I have a number saved for Chili's. What a shame. So yes, I do.
8. What is your favorite and least favorite letter to write in cursive?
Uh, I don't think I have a favorite. A's are easy. Q's are like a sick joke.
9. Do you know any good riddles?
No.
10. How do you feel about snow?
I enjoy snow. Maybe I enjoy springtime snow, though. I like when it's not super-cold but there is still snow on the ground. I think it's beautiful. Dave takes it to a whole new level of love for snow, though. I think he loves snow more than he loves me.

Since I never update my real baby book...
Here are the 12-Month baby stats for Myla Grace:

If you're thinking what I'm thinking, then you're right: Her head size probably indicates that she's a baby genius.

Also, since Myla is one year old, it was time for her to join in an old family tradition of ours. I say "old" because this tradition started with my dad. That's at least 50 years old! Anywho, when my dad (along with his brothers and cousin) turned a year old, Grandma took them to have a photo taken at a studio. In the photo, the kids stand there in cute little outfits holding a ball. My dad's cousin a.k.a. Punkin Doodle, was the only girl in the family. I'm pretty sure she could do no wrong. She wore a lovely little dress in her photo. When Kristen and I turned one, we were able to use the same dress and take our one-year pictures. But, in an unfortunate series of events, the dress was lost. I didn't want this to be a reason to stop the tradition, so I asked my mother-in-law to come to the rescue! She and Dave's aunt made a near replica of the dress using only an iphone photo of the photo of me hanging on my parents' wall.
Side story: When Dave was looking at the photo-of-a-photo of me, he said, "I wonder if taking a picture of another picture someone smashes the original photo..." and I looked over and replied, "No, I was just cross-eyed as a baby." Dave: "Oh! You were cross-eyed!" Good times.
This is my cross-eyed self, teetering since my mom was secretly behind me holding me up right until it was time to take the shot.
This is my Myla Grace. The ball? Didn't happen. It took Dave, two grandmas, a committed photographer, lots of puffs, peekaboo and an act of God to make the child take some halfway smiling pictures.
She still made it into the 100th percentile for cuteness, though. :)

Myla's First Birthday Party: A Picture Post

Ten on Tuesday

1. How do you eat your eggs?
Over medium, usually. Is that where the yolk is runny, but the white is hard? That's what I like. I also like my eggs in breakfast taco form. Yum.
2. Do you volunteer?
Hmm, I'd like to say yes. But no. The only place I regularly serve, which I would not call volunteering, is the kids' area at our church. That's really just me doing my part for the church we call home, though.
3. What’s your favorite brand of jeans?
4. What was your child’s first word? Or what was your first word?
"Mama." As in, she only said it when she was angry and hungry.
5. Can you french braid?
Not at all. Back in the day, we used to make my cousin french braid our hair all the time. It made us look cool and stuff.
6. Do you prefer wide rule, college rule, or blank paper?
College-ruled. I need some boundaries, and wide-ruled leaves too much room for weaving all around the page! Don't even get me started on blank paper. That's just crazy.
7. Is there a specific treat do you always make during the holidays?
No. There are many treats I tend to eat, but none that I actually make.
8. Do you have a KitchenAid mixer? Do you want one?
We do have a KitchenAid mixer, and my husband uses that thing like nobody's business. He likes a good dough challenge. I find most kitchen appliances scary, so I have only used it once (to make icing). There are so many pieces! I prefer a spoon.
9. What kind of computer do you use?
I have a Dell inspiron a la 2007ish. It's still kicking, although the battery life sucks.
10. Favorite Christmas movie?
White Christmas, Die Hard. Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie. If it wasn't, then why does my family watch it every year at Christmas?

Happy Birthday, Myla Grace!
To my Myla:
I can't believe you have been our little Scooter for a year now. I love you so much it hurts my dadgum heart. I was even a little bit nervous that I won't be able to love someone else as much as I love you. (Don't worry, subsequent children, Dave said it wouldn't be a problem). I'm going to stop writing about you now before I permanently damage my keyboard with snot and tears.

1. Do you wear glasses, contacts, or are you one of those perfect eyed people?
I got glasses when I was in the seventh grade, and I was mortified to wear them for some reason. I would put them on to read the board, then leave them on my desk until I needed them again. Now, I wear my contacts most of the time, but still throw in the old glasses every now and then. It just bugs me that I can't wear sunglasses to drive when I have on my regular glasses. It's all very exciting, I know.
2. What is the next item you are going to purchase?
A birthday present for my dad. Happy bday, old man! Love ya! Hope you want to get matching tattoos!
3. Have you ever watched Judge Judy or any other real court show?
Speaking of my dad, he and I used to watch Judge Judy together. I don't even know if he remembers that. It probably isn't the best show to watch with your kids, especially when the not-so-brilliant kid thinks Judy is a real judge...
4. How do you feel about fake nails?
I used to love getting my nails done with acrylic and such, but I'm way too cheap for that now. It always made me feel so put together, though. I think it kills your real nails, but who really cares when you have the money to keep spending on the pretty fake ones?
5. What is your favorite sport to watch?
I grew up watching America's sport-- baseball. I also like to watch Longhorn football. Volleyball is one of my favorites to watch live in action, though. I was forced to become a professional volleyball spectator as a child, and I still enjoy it.
6. If you could create your own Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor, what would it be and what would it be named?
I'm boring with ice cream. I like fairly plain flavors, and Ben & Jerry's flaves are too busy for me. So, I'll pass on that one.
7. Do you have any scars?
Um, probably. I have a small scar on my arm where I had a mole removed... and I think that's it.
8. Does your pet’s name fit them? Is there a more appropriate name?
Naming my wiener dog was so hard. Her name is Laci, but I still call her Lucy half the time. Her middle name, Wiener, fits her perfectly though. And Penny Lane fits our other dog pretty well. "Goober" might be more fitting, though.
9. What is your favorite television show theme song?
This is a tough one. I don't know. Maybe the Monday night football song?
10. What was your favorite activity on the playground?
Swings all the way. I used to love going really high then doing one of those backflip things to land. Ah, the wonder years.

I've been a ToT slacker lately, but I'm back! (at least for right now). Join in the fun here.

1. What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?
Pretty much the usual. We are heading to Ft. Worth to hang with my dad's side of the family for a few days then coming back here to hang out with Mom's side over the weekend.
2. What are you most thankful for this year?
There are too many things to count! I guess I am most thankful for Jesus. I am also thankful for my awesome family.
3. Do you have any traditions on Thanksgiving? The parade? Football? Long naps?
Well, first there is the mandatory viewing of both the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. Then, heavy eating. Then, food comas.
4. Is it called stuffing or dressing? Is it in the bird or a separate dish?
I am ill-equipped to answer this question, because I won't touch the stuff (no matter what you call it). I think it's because it's so ambiguous-looking. I mean, what even is that?!
5. Do you cook?
On a normal day, I try to feed my family. But no, when it comes to Thanksgiving, I am never asked to bring anything. Partially because I'm still one of the "kids," and partially because I am not known for my good cooking skills. On the other hand, Dave is allowed to contribute, so I picked two pies for him to make-- pumpkin streusel and chocolate pecan. YUM.
6. What is your favorite dish?
Sweet potatoes with candies pecans on top. Pretty much anything in the world with brown sugar and pecans...
7. What is your dessert preference?
Pumpkin pie... and more sweet potatoes.
8. What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory?
Hmm, I don't have a great memory... The only thing I can think of is this stuff my grandma used to make that I loved as a kid. I called it green stuff. I'm still not entirely sure what it is. I think it's some kind of pistachio pudding or something? It also had nuts and marshmallows, so what's not to like?
9. Do you plan to shop on Black Friday?
Black Friday terrifies me. I'd rather be eating leftovers and nursing my food coma any day than being surrounded by crazy shoppers.
10. What are you most dreading about Thanksgiving this year?
I'm not really dreading anything, so I guess I'll just say the actual driving part. A 5 hour drive could be really easy or really terrible with a baby in the car.

Myla's First Halloween
Since Dave and I are both kind of Scrooges, we aren't super hyped up about Halloween. I keep reminding myself that I want my kids to have fun, so I should, too! But anyway, Halloween arrived the day after we got back from our Chicago trip, so our grand plan was to do the bare minimum and hang out with my folks. I didn't buy a costume for the kiddo, but we had a Texas Longhorns cheerleading uniform already. No, it didn't really fit yet. No, I didn't really care. We dressed Myla up, took a few pics, completely posed trick-or-treating at Mom and Dad's house, changed her into pj's, and let her hit the sack while we hung out and passed out candy to little kids. I'll just post some pics to prove it (complete with overly enthusiastic photo faces a la Katy).
