Semiversary

I know I joked on facebook about Cirque du Soleil tickets for our 6-month anniversary, but Dave and I have recently been thinking that a little mini-celebration might not be a bad idea for us around the 6 month mark.  The main reason for this is that it turns out that we won't ever have an anniversary without children...

SO, since I'm such a tightwad and babies are expensive (I hear) we are on a budget!

My ideas on the staycation/vacation front are things like: Kemah, Galveston, Fredericksburg, nice Houston dinner + hotel...

Since I'm not a real Houstonian, but rather a sheltered Sugar Lander, I need ideas!  If anyone can recommend yummy restaurants, fun hotels, fun TX weekend getaways (whether they were on my list or not), let me know!  Don't be shy.  Our 6-month anniversary is at stake.  It's the only one where we won't have to come up with a babysitter. [*see note]

THANKS!

* Note: While I type "come up with a babysitter," I actually mean letting grandparents and other relatives compete in some sort of Olympic competition where the winner gets to care for our little Scooterbaby.  I mean, who wouldn't want to watch our bundle of joy??

  2. 1) I can't believe it's been 6 months already. I guess time flies when you're having fun, although I guess you've been having more fun than the rest of us...he he.

    2) I hear a good way to cut back when you're on a budget is to eliminate Starbucks...I know, I know, blasphemy, but just think of the $5 worth of diapers you can buy Scooterbaby instead!

    3) I have no real input as to your semi-versary.

    That's all :)

  3. Hey Katy! Congrats on your marriage and baby on the way! It has been a while but I thought I'd throw out an idea. Fredericksburg - stay @ Hoffman Haus B&B(www.hoffmanhaus.com). My boyfriend and I went last year and it was amazing. The breakfast is out of this world good! Tons of wineries (we went to Becker Vineyards) and breweries which I guess isn't up your alley being prego and all but still fun to go :) Check out when Becker has their annual grape stomp - probably in August...so fun. Enchanted Rock is just 30 min. away. There's an absolutely amazing restaurant called Hilltop Cafe. Also, there are tons of shops and things to see in dt Fburg. Hope this helps!

  4. Four our honeymoon, Joe and I went to San Antonio. We stayed in The Alamo Hotel near the Riverwalk. We spent a night or two visiting places along the Riverwalk and touring places nearby during the day. We spent one day each going to Fiesta Texas and Sea World. Sea World was definitely the winner (and since you're pregnant, you should probably steer clear of roller coasters). Then we went tubing on the Guadalupe River, which was awesome (and this is the perfect season for it!) Then, we road-tripped back to Houston on Hwy. 90 instead of I-10, stopping in all the little towns along the way to visit historical sights, etc. It was awesome!

For our 1st anniversary, we went to South Austin. We went to the Hula Hut for lunch, then toured South Congress (shopping) and ate at Amy's Icecream. Then we went to Vespaio for dinner on South Congress (it was amazing), and went to the bridge on South Congress to wait for the bats to make their nightly flight. It was pretty neat. Austin is fun. Fredericksburg is fun...it has a lot of historical sights, but it's mainly known for all the wineries in the area. In Houston, Joe and I used to visit all of the museums. My brother, Chris works at the Marriott in Sugar Land (by the courthouse). They have a really nice restaurant inside that my sister says has great food and isn't overly pricey. Have fun!
